Does your back-to-school shopping include new backpacks and clothes?
Are last year’s still in good shape? Just drop off “gently used”
stuff at the From
Kids For Kids (FK4K) zone and we’ll pass
it on to other kids who want to look good and feel ready for school.
It’s easy, and knowing it comes from another kid makes a big difference.
FK4K was created
by Nani Welch Keliihoomalu in 2006, when she was 10 years old. Inspired
by the Read Across America program, she immediately wanted to start
sending books to children in Africa, but her teacher told her plenty
of kids in Hawaii need books too.

Welch Keliihoomalu receives $1000 Grant Award
from Kaiser Permanente during Kaiser's 50 year celebration. |
In that first year, Nani and fellow students on the Big Island
filled her garage with more than a 1000 books and gladly gave them
to other kids and their families. But that was just the start of
their community service projects for kids. They soon included art
supplies and recycled backpacks, and they keep the ball rolling
year after year.
More than a kids’ charity, FK4K
helps kids donate to each other. They learn how good it feels to
start giving back to the community, to help mentor each other and
build self-esteem. Backpacks are the most-requested donation item
for children’s charities, in Hawaii and around the world.
From Kids for Kids
makes it easy to give a backpack to a kid, along with clothes, art
and school supplies, books and other fun stuff, from kids for
kids.
Where they will go:
- Women Shelters
- Homeless shelters
- Transitional Housing for Families
- Hospitals/ health clinics
- Schools around the Big Island for students who might need them

The relationship of From Kids For Kids to North Hawaii Drug Free
Coalition is a positive reflection on kids. Kids should be active
partners with us in our anti-drug message. They see the relationship
of what they are doing as a wonderful, powerful, promotion of healthy
lifestyles. |
